Yesterday, Nov. 14, fellow poet Susan Peiffer, 2012 Pikes Peak Performance Poet of the Year, journeyed with me to Fremont Correctional Facility (prison) in Canon City.  She volunteered to give a performance of her work and lead the men in some writing exercises.  She stunned them with beautiful 3 and 4 minute memorized performances of her poems, and several writing prompts that they responded to with great words on paper.  I write now to thank and praise Susan for her generosity and professional performances.  Before we left the two-hour workshop, one of the men said, “Thank you so much for coming and telling us so much about what is going on with Poetry Slams and readings, this makes us feel connected to the poets out there and we are a part of them and they a part of us.”
