Adrienne Rich, 1929-2012

May I share with you the words of Adrienne Rich, poet,
who was born in 1929 and passed this year.

She wrote about Poetry,
“as living language,
the core of every language
something that is still spoken
aloud or in the mind
muttered in secret
subversive
reaching around corners
crumpled into a pocket
performed to a community
read aloud to the dying
recited by heart
scratched or sprayed on a wall
That kind of language.”

“We are. I am. You are.”
Adrienne Rich

(This quote was in the 12/30/2012, Sunday NY Times Magazine, page 27)
