Heilke’s Gift

Heilke brought a bouquet of tulips to Mary.

As I write morning pages,
they’re right in front of me;
yellow sunfire
tulips    tulips     tulips   tulips
  tulips     tulips    tulips
 tulips tulips  tulips  tulips
closed mouthed,
blushing pink along their cheeks.
I’m going to sit here,
wait for this choir to
open their mouths and sing.
You too.

And when we hear their song
maybe we’ll also hear what
was said to them
to open their lips
and sing so beautifully.

You too.
