Loving It

Wow! Shoulda seen the baby robin in the bird bath,
splashing water over its wings, bobbin’ up and down,
more splashing, then hopped up onto the rim of the fountain
and flapped and fluffed itself nearly dry, then looked down at the water
and jumped down into the water, splashin’ and bathin’ all over again,
then got out, up on the rim, fluffin ‘n flappin’ and guess what,
it cocked its head and looked down again at the water,
musta thought, this is too good to pass up,
and hopped down into the water again
for one last quick dip. Then hopped out,
flew over to the patio table and spent
a long time preening, poking under its wings,
flappin’ feathers, dryin’ off, etc etc
and then flew over to the fence railing and soaked up the sun.
What a life. Loving it.
Up on the bird feeder a red headed finch watched it all.
